Who We Are

Supply & Transportation Corps

For the Hellenic Army’s Support before WWII, the French system had been adopted, with the existence of Automobiles Corps and Logistics Corps. These two Corps were acting independently, through independent directorates and despite efforts for coordination, it was concluded that there was a need for closer cooperation.
Modelled after the British Army, which unified these two Corps, to deal with this issue, after the commencement of WWII, and after the arrival of the fist Transportation Units in Greece, established and organised in the Middle East in 1941 as per the British model, the Supplies and Transportation Corps was established in 1945. The Supplies and Transportation Corps was staffed with personnel transferred from the Corps of Automobiles, Logistics, Administration and various Arms. Since 1946, it is being staffed with Officers who graduate from the Hellenic Army Academy (Evelpidon).

The Supplies and Transportation Corps, implementing the principles of Logistics, supports the Units and the Formations of the Army and the other Services of the Armed and Security Forces with supplies and materials of its competency, while at the same time it conducts transportations and its bakers cover daily needs.

The Supplies and Transportation Corps emblem

The insignia of the Supplies and Transportation Corps consist of a corncob symbolising supply and setting aside stock, two wings symbolising air resupply and a circular sheath of oak leaves symbolising transportation. The colours of the Supplies and Transportation Corps are yellow and green (yellow – green – yellow). The Patron Saint of the Corps is Saint Georgios.

Our Mission

The mission of the Supplies and Transportation Corps is to resupply the Army with foodstuffs, fuel, lubricants, as well as miscellaneous supplies and materials under its competency. With the expertly trained personnel and the utilisation either of aircraft from the Hellenic Air Force or helicopters from the Army Aviation, it resupplies the Army Units from the air, when and where required. With the available transportation assets, it executes road transports of supplies, materials and personnel. It trains the personnel of all the Arms and Corps on subjects of its jurisdiction (bakers, cooks etc.).
At the Supplies and Transportation Training Centre, a Lifelong Learning Centre has been established and operates, providing a degree corresponding to the specialties of Baker and Cook to the trainee soldiers. It is also collaborating with the country’s Higher Education Institutions (National Metsovian Technical University of Athens, Agricultural University of Athens, University of Piraeus) for graduate and postgraduate education of its force’s members.

Characteristics

The Supplies and Transportation Corps holds a distinguished position in the Logistics system, since, through its dual mission, meaning the execution of any kind of road transport as well as the Units’ supply with provisions and materials of its competency, it constitutes a basic factor for the sustenance of the Troops and the smooth operation of the Logistics system, in peacetime but also during operations.
