History

History legend, in this unseized bastion of Pindos, the Hellenic Army, gave, oncemore, a lesson of heroism, to humanity.
October 1940: Albania has already been conquered by Italy which prepared for the capture of Greece. The night of 27th October the Italian Forces approach the borderline. On the left of the border, near the village Colonel Siapence first phalanx is deployed at the left edge of the borderline near Pepeli Village. Near the village Hepiskopi the second phalanx of General Jiannini is stationed. Near the village Sopini the third phalanx of Colonel Tritcio is deployed. Finally on the right edge in Leskoviki Area, the fourth phalanx of Colonel Solinas is stationed.

The Hellenic frond line forces are deployed on their battle positions near the border. From the village Kastiani at Mourgana until the village Stratsani at Konitsa there are four battalions (enemy deployment as show at chart).

On October 28th at 05:30, half an hour before the ultimate's dead line, after a violent bombardment by field artillery and Air Force, the Italian forces started invading the Greek Area. From the left, the First phalanx of Colonel Siapence moved to Haravgi, Stratinista, hill Kala Dendra. The second phalanx, the centre of General Jiannini moving with destination Argirohori, Stavrodromi, Hani Delvinakiou, hill Limni. The third of Colonel Tritcio had been forwarded to Drimades, Meropi, Roupsia, Ano Ravenia. The fourth phalanx of Colonel Solina moved on the right edge to Aidonohori and the hill Scopia.

Until the night of October 30th, the Italian Forces Division Ferrara had approached too much to the main battle area. Initialy the Greek front line troops withdrew in their basic defensive line, at the location of the 8th Division, at the hills Grabala, Assonisa, 493, Vella, Agios Athanasios, Vrontismeni, Siastis, Moni Sossikou.

The entire defence are included the sectors of Negradon which include the sub sectors of Soudenon, Kalpaki, and Vrodismeni's. Commander of 8th Division was the legendary Major General Katsimitros.

The Italian Forces on October 30th and November 1st are forwarded to their final battle positions and prepare for the final attack. The time for the major attack had come. On November 2nd from 09:00 at the morning Italian aircrafts flew in succesive waves bombing the Kalpaki position and mainly the hill Grambala. After the Air Forces' withdrew, the attack by the ground forces started, in the entire front. In the afternoon hours the hill of Grabala was occupied by the Italians, which the Greeks captured with a counter attack in the morning hours of Noveber 3rd. It was a decisive day for the final evolution of the victorious battle.
