Events

The Hellenic Army General Staff, within the framework of development, innovation, and high level technical support, proceeded in July 2018 to the signing of an MoU with the University of Thessaly in the headquarters of the 304th Forward Base Plant.

A delegation of the University, headed by the dean, Mr. Georgios Petrakos, visited the 304th Forward Base Plant, was given a tour of the Plant's facilities, and was briefed on the Army's constant efforts to upgrade its assets.

The aim of the MoU between the Plant and the University is to develop a co-operation, improve the specialised training and the provision of services by the two bodies, as well as exchange experience and means for the mutual use of the results of their common research.

On Wednesday, 01 August 2018, a ceremony was held at the Hellenic Military Academy (Evelpidon) in Vari for the oath-taking of a 2nd Lieutenant of the Class of 2018 "Lieutenant General (Eng) Konstantinos Kallaris". The sword was awarded to the new 2nd Lieutenant by the Chief of Hellenic Army General Staff, Lieutenant General Alkiviadis Stefanis.
We wish the new 2nd Lieutenant a successful career.

In July 2016, the Evaluation Directorate of the Army General Inspectorate of HAGS conducted an operational evaluation of the 34th Medium Tank Battalion and the 786th Transportation Battalion.

Reserve Officers and Soldiers were called up, all standard procedures were implemented, and existing plans were tested.

The activity confirmed the high readiness level of the Units, the proper condition of weapon systems and assets, the high morale, and the personnel's awareness of its mission.

From 24 June to 21 July 2018, the Hellenic Military Academy (Evelpidon) cadets conducted summer training in the "KANAPITSA" Proving Ground in Litohoro, aimed at providing them with the skills to survive outdoors, mentally and physically strengthening them, and improving their skills as small echelon leaders. Within the framework of jointness, they were joined for a week by cadets of the Hellenic Naval and Air Force Academies.

The training included individual tactics, fighter techniques, and a Squad-level day and night Field Exercise, while the cadets also trained on urban warfare in the National Urban Warfare Operations Centre of Excellence in Argyroupoli, Kilkis.

On Wednesday, 25 July 2018, a memorial service took place in the 6th Special National Guard Battalion in honour of the fallen Officers and raiders of the 1st Amphibious Raider Battalion during the Turkish invasion of Cyprus in 1974, as well as the renaming of the camp to "Taxiarhou Georgiou Papameletiou – Pedopolis 'Theotokos'" Camp, in honour of the Commander of the heroic Battalion during the operations in Cyprus.
