Visit by the Chief HAGS to the 414th Army Hospital for Special Conditions

On Friday, 31 August 2018, the Chief of Hellenic Army General Staff, Lieutenant General Alkiviadis Stefanis, visited the 414th Army Hospital for Special Conditions and, in particular, the modern facilities of the aquatic therapy pool, which constitutes an important tool for the physical rehabilitation of our personnel.

This aquatic therapy facility consists of two 20 m pools and comprises unique equipment by both Greek and European standards.

To this end, particular focus has been given lately to the staffing and the proper training of the personnel of the aquatic therapy department.

The Chief was briefed on the new staffing and the use of the pool, the conditions it is used for, as well as the services provided.

Officer Recognition

On Friday, 31 August 2018, within the framework of the Army's "We Are Proud" action, the Chief HAGS, Lieutenant General Alkiviadis Stefanis, recognised Armour Lieutenant Colonel Theodoros Salimkas, a powerlifting and Olympic weightlifting athlete. He has competed in many events, representing our country both in Greece and abroad, earning the following distinctions:

- 15 times North Greece Champion.

- 12 times National Champion.

- 6 times Balkan winner (3 times 2nd place and 3 times 3rd place).

- 4 times in the top ten of the European Championship.

- 2 times in the top twelve of the World Championship.

Furthermore, he has also competed in Olympic weightlifting, in the 105+ weight class, winning 1st place 3 times and becoming National Champion in the Military Games.

The ceremony was attended by the Officer's mother.

Opening of a Two-day Event on Innovation on the Subject “Do You Have the Idea that will Improve our Army?”

On Thursday, 30 August 2018, the Chief of Hellenic Army General Staff, Lieutenant General Alkiviadis Stefanis, opened a two-day event on Innovation organised by HAGS, which will take place on 30 and 31 August 2018.

In his address, the Chief welcomed the participants, pointing out that the aim of this particular event is to prompt all Army personnel into contributing innovative ideas – proposals, aimed at introducing new technologies, structures, and procedures, thus optimising the Army's operation.

The first day of the event featured:

- Lectures by specialised experts on innovation matters (university professors, entrepreneurs, state officials).

- The formation of teams of officers to shape innovation proposals.

- The selection of the best proposals to be discussed and recognised on the second day of the event.

Chief HAGS Meeting with a Five-member Delegation of the Jordanian Army

On Wednesday, 29 August 2018, the Chief of Hellenic Army General Staff, Lieutenant General Alkiviadis Stefanis, had a meeting at his office with a five-member delegation of the Jordanian Army visiting our country from 27 to 30 August 2018, in the context of examining cooperation possibilities with the Hellenic Army, following a previous consultation between the Hellenic National Defence General Staff and the Armed Forces General Staff of Jordan.

During this meeting the exceptional relations between the two Armies were confirmed, while at the same time identifying the perspectives for further enhancement, within the broader framework of HNDGS guidelines.

Operational Training of Newly Assigned Conscripts of the 71st Airmobile Brigade

On August 20 and 21, 2018, the 71st Airmobile Brigade (71st A/M BDE “PONTOS”) provided operational training to the newly assigned Conscripts  of the 2018 D Enlistment Series, who attend the Recruits Advanced Training School as follows:       
    • Co-training with helicopters of the 1st Army Aviation Brigade at the military airfield in Alexandria, Imathia.
    • Open space living, individual tactics, assault techniques and urban environment combat at the area of responsibility of the 9th Motorised Brigade (9th MOTORISED INF BDE “ADRIANOUPOLI”).
The continuous and realistic training of the Conscripts promotes the operational readiness of the Units they are assigned to, augmenting, at the same time, their morale and their self-confidence.
