From 07 to 11 June 2021 and from 9 until 11 June 2021, the Field Training Exercise “PAVLOS MELAS-21” was conducted in the Field of Fire of Petrota, Xanthi. The Basic Training Course of Artillery Second Lieutenants (Class of 2020) participated in the exercise. The artillery practice firings for the 1st semester 2021 were also conducted with the participation of personnel and with the use of weapon systems and assets from Artillery Units of the Hellenic 1st Army/EU-OHQ “ACHILLEAS”, the Higher Military Command of Interior and Islands “AIGEAS” and the D Army Corps (D Army Corps “THRACE”).

The objective of the Field Training Exercise was the Second Lieutenants to be trained in actions and procedures that simulate a modern operational environment, by executing all kinds of Artillery fire and by gaining significant experiences in serving, technique, tactics and observation of fires.

During the firing, all the anticipated procedures were implemented, in order to coordinate the supporting fire, to achieve the highest possible synergy of the weapon systems with the Fire Direction Centers and the radar systems of the Artillery Units.

The Commander of D Army Corps “THRACE” Lieutenant General Angelos Choudeloudis attended the last day of the practice firing and confirmed the high operational training level of the Units’ personnel in the technical and tactical use of the weapon systems during the conduct of fires.
