The week from 17 to 21 October 2022 included thematic events dedicated to the Cavalry – Armour Arm, whose purpose was to highlight the history and contribution of the Arm to the Nation’s struggles, as well as the key role of tanks in dealing with current and future challenges.

Within the framework of these events, a day event was held on Monday, 17 October 2022, at the Hellenic Military Academy (Evelpidon) on the subject “The Cavalry in Modern Greek History: 200 Years of Struggles and Contribution”, in the in the presence of the Chief of Hellenic National Defence General Staff, General Konstantinos Floros, who opened the event, and the Chief of Hellenic Army General Staff, Lieutenant General Charalampos Lalousis. The event was also attended by members of the Supreme Military Council, the Mayor of Vari, Voula, and Vouliagmeni, Mr. Grigorios Konstantellos, Archimandrite Chrysostomos Makris as representative of the Metropolitan of Glyfada, Elliniko, Voula, Vouliagmeni, and Vari, and the Director of the Cavalry – Armour Directorate of the Hellenic Army General Staff, Major General Georgios Mavroidis. Lectures were given by the special scientist and lecturer of Political History at the Hellenic Military Academy (Evelpidon), Mr. Dimitrios Malesis, the Associate Professor of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, Mr. Spyridon Ploumidis, the Deputy Commander of the Army Inspectorate General – Doctrine and Training Command, special scientist, and lecturer of Military History at the Hellenic Military Academy (Evelpidon), Major General Anastasios Polychronos, Lieutenant General Dimitrios Kyriakos (ret.), the Assistant Professor of Military History at the Hellenic Military Academy (Evelpidon), Lieutenant Colonel (HAF) Nikolaos Kanelopoulos (ret.), the Commandant of the Armour School, Brigadier General Ioannis Kostoulas, and the Commander of the Cavalry Company, Brigadier General Dimitrios Stergiou – Kapsalis. Moderators of the event were the Professor Emeritus of Military History at the Hellenic Military Academy (Evelpidon), Major General Andreas Kastanis (ret.), and the Assistant Professor of Political History at the Hellenic Military Academy (Evelpidon), Mr. Nikolaos Tompros.

On Wednesday, 19 October, there was an “Open Camp” action, during which students of the General High Schools of Skala Oropou, Psahna Evias, and Avlonas and their families visited Camp “EPILARHOU GEORGIOU MELIDI”. The visitors were given a tour of the "IANOS" war game facilities, the driving simulators, the firing simulators, and the Tank Museum, and attended a tank demonstration.

The events were completed on Friday, 21 October, with the Distinguished Visitors Day at Camp “EPILARHOU GEORGIOU MELIDI”, in the presence of the Chief of Hellenic Army General Staff as representative of the Chief of Hellenic National Defence General Staff.

The event included a parade of current and historic tanks and vehicles, a parade and demonstration of a Platoon of the Cavalry Company of the Armour Training Centre, a tank obstacle course crossing, and a static display of historic armoured vehicles, tanks and vehicles of the Association for the Preservation of Historic Vehicles.

The event was also attended by the Mayor of Oropos, Mr. Georgios Ap. Giasimakis, the Metropolitan of Ilion, Aharnes and Petroupoli, Mr. Athinagoras, the Commanding General of the Higher Military Command of Interior and Islands “AEGEAS”, Lieutenant General Dimitrios Houpis, the Director of the Cavalry – Armour Directorate of the Hellenic Army General Staff, Major General Georgios Mavroidi, the former Deputy Minister of National Defence and Honorary Chief HAGS, General Alkiviadis Stefanis (ret.), the Honorary Chief HAGS, General Vasilios Tellidis (ret.), as well as active duty and retired Cavalry – Armour officers.
